RESUMPTION OF MATERNITY AND SURGICAL WING CONSTRUCTION

Homa Bay, 25th September 2026 — St. Paul's Mission Hospital (SPMH) wishes to inform the public, staff, patients, and all stakeholders that construction of the hospital's new Maternity and Surgical Wing — which has been temporarily stalled — is set to resume by 1st October 2026.
The Administration acknowledges that the construction project, which was officially launched through a groundbreaking ceremony on 20th July 2025 presided over by His Lordship Bishop Michael Odiwa of the Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay, experienced an interruption that delayed progress beyond the initial timeline. We recognise the concern this may have raised among our patients, staff, and the wider community, and we appreciate the patience and continued confidence that has been extended to the hospital during this period.
We are pleased to confirm that the necessary arrangements have been made and that construction will recommence on or before 1st October 2026. The Administration, working in close collaboration with the project team — including the contracted architects, engineers, and construction personnel — is committed to ensuring that works resume without further delay and that momentum is maintained through to completion.
The Maternity and Surgical Wing remains a priority infrastructure project for St. Paul's Mission Hospital. When complete, the wing will significantly strengthen the hospital's capacity to deliver safe maternity services and surgical care to the people of Homa Bay County and the surrounding region — a need that continues to grow and one that this hospital is determined to meet.
We take this opportunity to reassure all stakeholders that this project has not been abandoned. The vision remains intact, the commitment of hospital leadership and the Diocese of Homa Bay remains firm, and the work will continue.
